# AllGifted Math — Student Guide

A friendly walkthrough of how the AllGifted Math app works. No tech jargon.

---

## 1. Getting in

You don't need a password. To sign in:

1. Open the AllGifted Math app on your phone or browser.
2. Type your email or phone number.
3. Tap **Send Verification Code**. A 6-digit code arrives at your email or phone within a few seconds.
4. Type the code. You're in.

The code only lasts **5 minutes**. If it expires, just tap "Send" again — a new code will arrive.

> First time? Same flow. The app creates your account on the spot.

---

## 2. What's on your home screen

Your home screen shows:

- **Your maxile** — a single number that represents your current overall math level. The higher, the further along you are. (More on this in §6.)
- **Your kudos** — points you've earned by getting questions right.
- **Your lives** — how many wrong answers you can afford before you have to wait or top up.
- **Your last test** — when you last practiced.
- **What's available** — the three things you can do: take the **Diagnostic**, follow your **Kiasu Path**, or practice a specific **Track**.

---

## 3. The Diagnostic — figuring out where you are

The diagnostic is a one-time-per-month placement test. It tells the system (and you) which level of math you're at, by field.

**How it feels:**

- The app picks one question from each major field of math (e.g. Algebra, Geometry, etc.) at a starting level.
- You answer. If you get it right, the next question in that field steps **up**. If wrong, it steps **down**.
- The system stops asking about a field when it figures out your level for that field (when "right" and "wrong" answers bracket a band — that's your level).
- When all fields have been pinpointed, the diagnostic finishes and your maxile is set.

**Important things to know:**

- **Diagnostic doesn't cost lives.** You won't lose a life for getting one wrong — the system needs honest performance to place you correctly.
- **Diagnostic doesn't earn kudos.** Same reason — we don't want you guessing strategically.
- **You can take the diagnostic again after 30 days** (free accounts). Premium accounts can re-take anytime.
- If you've never done a diagnostic, the app may nudge you to do one first so it can recommend the right practice.

**While you're taking it**: just answer honestly. Wrong answers help the system understand your level just as much as right ones do.

---

## 4. Kiasu Path — your personalized learning path

After the diagnostic, the Kiasu Path is the system's recommendation for what to practice. It works through your weakest fields first and adapts as you improve.

**How it feels:**

- The app gives you a batch of questions (usually 5), one from each of your fields.
- You answer them. The system grades each one.
- Within each field, the system tracks how you're doing. Get 3 in a row right? It nudges that field up to a harder level. Get 2 in a row wrong at the current level? It steps back down to make sure you've actually mastered the basics.
- When you finish the batch, a new batch is generated based on your latest performance.
- A test ends after about 10 questions (configurable). You'll see a summary.

**Kiasu Path requires a premium subscription.** Free accounts can do diagnostic + track practice, but Kiasu Path is the adaptive personalized engine that needs the premium tier.

---

## 5. Track practice — drilling a specific topic

Tracks are pre-curated topic-based question sets (e.g. "Long division", "Fractions intro"). You pick the one you want to work on.

**How it feels:**

- Open a track from the catalog.
- The app gives you a set of questions (typically 10) drawn from that track's skills.
- You answer them one at a time. After each answer, the app tells you if you got it right and explains why.
- When you finish, you see a summary: how many right, what your accuracy was.

**You can have one in-progress practice per track** — if you start a track and don't finish, you can come back later and resume right where you left off.

---

## 6. What is maxile?

Maxile is your single-number math level. Think of it like a height — it goes up over time as you prove what you know.

**How it moves:**

- You answer questions correctly across different fields.
- The system looks at your last few answers per skill (about 5) and computes a level for that skill. The harder the question and the more you get right, the higher the level for that skill climbs.
- Skill levels roll up to a track level (average across skills in the track), then to a field level (average across tracks in the field), then to your overall maxile (average across fields).

**It moves with your current ability:**

- Strong recent answers → maxile goes up.
- A run of wrong answers on tough questions → maxile can come back down. It's not a punishment — it just means the system is keeping its read on where you're at right now, so the next test gives you questions that match your real level.
- Wrong on your first try doesn't immediately ding you — you get a second chance. Only your final answer on a question counts toward maxile.

**What it doesn't do:**

- It's not a percentage or a grade. It's a continuous number tied to math difficulty bands.
- It doesn't directly determine what you "should" be doing — that's the Kiasu Path's job.
- Your maxile is a *current snapshot*, not a permanent record. If you take a break and come back rusty, expect it to dip a bit until you warm back up.

## 7. Lives and how they work

Lives represent your "tries" budget for the day. Each wrong answer in track or kiasu mode costs one life.

| What you do | Effect on lives |
|---|---|
| Get a question right in any mode | No change |
| Get a question wrong in **diagnostic** mode | No change (diagnostic doesn't cost lives) |
| Get a question wrong in **track practice** | −1 life |
| Get a question wrong in **kiasu path** | −1 life |

**When you run out of lives:**
- The app blocks new practice until lives regenerate, OR you can buy more.
- **Free accounts** get a small pool (typically 5) and refill over time (usually a few hours per life).
- **Premium accounts** typically have unlimited lives.

**Topping up**: tap the Lives counter to see purchase options (small packages — 5 lives or 10 lives — via Apple Pay / Google Pay / Card).

---

## 8. Kudos and how they're earned

Kudos are points that reward you for getting things right. Harder questions = more kudos.

| What you do | Kudos earned |
|---|---|
| Get a question right (track or kiasu) | difficulty level + 1 (e.g. tier 3 question = 4 kudos) |
| Get a question wrong | 0 |
| Get any question in diagnostic | 0 (diagnostic doesn't earn kudos) |

Kudos accumulate over time on your profile. They're a long-term progress signal — there's no immediate spending or trading.

---

## 9. Streaks — what counts and what doesn't

The app tracks two kinds of streaks behind the scenes — per skill:

- **Correct streak** — consecutive right answers on a given skill. When this hits **3** (configurable), the system bumps your difficulty up for that skill.
- **Wrong streak** — consecutive wrong answers at or below your current level. When this hits **2** (configurable), the system steps your difficulty back down — making sure you've actually mastered the easier material before pushing on.

Both streaks reset whenever you get the opposite outcome. So one wrong answer after a long correct streak doesn't punish you long-term — it just resets the streak count for that skill.

> These per-skill streaks are different from "daily login streaks" or similar gamification — those aren't part of the current system.

---

## 10. Passing a skill, passing a track

**A skill is "passed"** when you've mastered every difficulty tier of it (i.e. you've passed up through the top tier). This means you've shown you can handle the hardest questions in that skill.

**A track is "passed"** when every single skill in the track is passed. It's all-or-nothing — passing 4 out of 5 skills in a track does NOT pass the track. Your track progress shows as a percentage based on how many skills you've passed.

**A field's maxile** climbs as the tracks within it climb. Your overall maxile is the average across all fields you've engaged with.

---

## 11. Reporting a question

If you find a question with a typo, wrong answer, broken image, or just confusing wording — flag it.

1. On the question, tap the **Report** button (usually a flag icon or "Report this question" link).
2. Pick the type of issue (wrong answer, unclear, image broken, etc.).
3. Optionally add a comment.
4. Submit. The QA team gets notified and reviews it. The question stays available to other students while it's being reviewed.

**You don't lose lives or kudos for reporting** — it's a help, not a punishment.

---

## 12. Common questions

**Why didn't I earn kudos for that question?**
You're in diagnostic mode. Diagnostics never earn kudos by design — it would skew the placement.

**Why didn't I lose a life when I got that wrong?**
Same — you're in diagnostic mode. Diagnostics never deduct lives.

**My maxile didn't change after a session — why?**
Maxile reflects your recent answers (about the last 5 per skill). If the session matched what you'd been doing, the average didn't move much. If you stepped up to harder difficulty AND got them right, expect a tick up. If you got several final-wrongs on tough questions, expect a tick down — that's the system tracking your current level honestly.

**Can I take the diagnostic again right now?**
Free accounts: only after 30 days from your last completed diagnostic. Premium: anytime.

**My code expired before I could enter it.**
Tap "Send Verification Code" again — a fresh code arrives.

**The app is showing a maintenance message.**
The system is being updated. Try again in a few minutes. (If it persists for hours, ping support.)

**I don't see Kiasu Path as an option.**
It's a premium feature. Upgrade to access it.

**Where do I see what questions I've answered?**
Test summary at the end of each session. Per-question history isn't currently exposed in the student app — let support know if you'd like that.
