Mixed number to improper fraction: (Whole x Denominator) + Numerator, keep the Denominator. The numerator tells you how many of that fractional part you have.

Mixed number	=	\(4\dfrac{2}{3}\)
Convert to an improper fraction: (4 x 3) + 2, all over 3.
Improper fraction	=	\(\dfrac{(4 \times 3) + 2}{3} = \dfrac{12 + 2}{3} = \dfrac{14}{3}\)
14/3 means 14 thirds.
